Checking In

Wow, this Christmas season has been quite the whirlwind! I can’t believe Christmas is next weekend. And, surprisingly, this year I’ve been doing very well with keeping on top of everything. In previous years I’ve been ambitious when it comes to being half (or mostly) handmade and it hasn’t always worked out. But this year it’s going great! I still can’t share the things I’ve been working on though. ::sad face::  As soon as Christmas day passes though, I’ll divulge all!

I’m feeling so inspired this Christmas by plaid.

I made family stockings for Steve, Caleb, and I (which I shared on the blog last week). They weren’t hanging up yet because we were in the process of completing a fake mantel. But now that the mantel is up and the stockings are hung, I’ve got some piccies.

It’s hard to see them at night in the soft glow of the tree so I included the shot of them during the day. The Christmas tree doesn’t look as magical though during the day.

I’m also in the process of working on red plaid flannel dinner napkins for Christmas dinner. We’re going to Steve’s parents during the day and then we’ll be hosting Christmas dinner for my family later in the day. Once those are done, I’ll be able to share those. I’m thinking about machine embroidering snowflakes on them. So excited! I’ve also completed two flannel skirts: one for Christmas Eve and one for Christmas day. SUPER excited about those! Will share those once I’ve got the whole outfit complete.

What are you up to this holiday season? Have you been getting all that you wanted to done?

Crafty Business

I’ve been so busy lately with all kinds of craftiness. And I’m just dying to share but I can’t. Most of it is Christmas related and I don’t know which members of my family are reading. And when. So in an effort to keep things secret and not spoil anything for them, I’m going to have to wait to share details and photos until after Christmas. It seems so far away but it’ll be here before you and I know it. I can’t believe this weekend is already the second weekend of December. Craziness!

There is one project I finished that I can share though. Steve and I have some felted wool stockings from Target (one has a Santa on it, which is mine, and the other has a deer, which is Steve’s). But now that our family has expanded, I wanted us to have a set of matching family stockings. I’ve been entirely obsessed with plaid flannel these days. So, naturally, I made plaid flannel stockings.

Steve’s is the stocking in the back, mine is in the middle, and Caleb’s is on top. I said that the project is finished but there is one more thing I’d like to do: distinguish whose stocking is whose. I just haven’t figured out how I want to do that yet. I initially thought about embroidering either a monogram or our full names on them but decided against it. I’m toying around with some other ideas so we’ll see what I come up with in the coming week. I wanna get these babies up and hangin’!

Gah! I’ve Been Gone So Long!

I took an unscheduled break from my blog. For a number of reasons.

I work part-time from home for a neighbor of mine. A few weeks ago she mentioned that she might not have much work for me in the coming weeks. Well, this past Monday my hours were significantly reduced (from about fifteen to five). In preparation for the cut, I’ve been spending a lot of time sewing so that I can kick this little business of mine into high gear. Blogging has definitely been on my mind but creating product has taken precedence right now as my income is significantly reduced and I can’t afford to not work. I need to be able to fill up my shop in hopes that I can start boosting sales to be home with my little man (daycare is expensive and, therefore, not an option). So, my visits may be a little more sparse than usual. But once I can catch up, I’ll be back with plenty of random musings. You can count on that!
